Topic Title: HELP!! - reiserfs partition needs intensive careFirst Post:
Pleas help,My root partition (using reiserfs) was running low on space so I decided to rearrange my partitions to give it more space. At the time there was a fat32 partition before the root partition on the disk so I wanted to move the fat to a different disk and resize the root partition to include that space.I used PowerQuests Drive Image to move the fat32 partion, and PartitionMagic to clean up the disks a bit to clear the space and while I was at it I changed the root partition from an extended to a primary partition just for the heck of it. Everything is fine so far and partition magic only complained that it didnt support reiserfs, but I didnt modify its file system so I figgured I was ok.I then switch to parted on the gentoo cd to work with the reiserfs partition. It was being finicky and refused to simply scoot the partition over a bit because the new location over lapped with the old. The free space is only slightly smaller than the root partitions so I resized the partition down by 90MB to make it fit. I dont remember exactly how much space was left on it, but it didnt complain about the 90MB so I thought I was ok. Does anyone know if parted will shrink a partition even if there isnt enough free space? After that I ran reiserfsck --check to make sure everything was ok. It wasnt, it told me there were errors only --rebuild-tree could fix. So I went ahead and ran reiserfsck --rebuild-tree. I get the following error message when I do that:
